Access to/from  Kraków – by air, road or rail.

There are two airports situated in the vicinity of Kraków: John Paul II International Airport Kraków-Balice and Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice.

Krakow’s airport in Balice is situated 11 km west of the city centre. Airlines operating to/from Kraków Airport: normal airlines like AerLingus, Lufthansa, LOT Polish Airlines, etc. and also cheap airlines like Ryanair or easyJet.
City centre – Airport connections:
We recommend taking a train - a fast train is available every half an hour, The entire trip to Kraków Główny (Main Station) takes approximately 20 minutes and the fare is 8 PLN. Tickets are available at the ticket machine at the Railway Station, inside the train or from the train staff. They can be also purchased from the ticket machine in the airport terminal.By bus - Krakow Airport is served by two regular bus lines: 208 and 292 and one night line: 902. Ticket price: 1 person, single trip: 5,00 PLN Tickets can be purchased from:  the bus driver,  the RELAY newsagent's shop – T1 international terminal, mezzanine, the ticket machine at the bus stop and additionally, ticket vending machines can be found on 292 line buses. The bus journey takes 45 minutes. There are only one or two buses an hour therefore it is worth consulting the timetable when planning your journey. By car - there are four different routes connecting the airport with the city centre. There is a secure, paid car park in front of the international terminal. For more parking information call: +48 12 295 30 65.
By taxi - you should expect to pay anything between 70-90PLN (depending on the time of the day, whether it is a weekday or weekend/public holiday). It takes approximately 30-40 min. to get to the centre of town. At the airport taxis are available from in front of the international terminal.

The Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport http://www.katowice-airport.com
Many visitors to Krakow come through the International Katowice-Pyrzowice Airport, as this is the airport used by popular budget airlines, such as WizzAir and Germanwings. The airport is situated approximately 110 km west of Krakow.
Katowice-Pyrzowice – Krakow city centre connections
By car – see the map for possible routes. There are secure paid parking areas in the airport area and unguarded paid parking lots (above 15min).
By bus – access from/to the Katowice city centre by bus (timetable available on the airport website), whereas Katowice can be reached by the train. The entire journey takes a minimum of 3 hours so it is probably best to take a mini bus run by one of the private carriers, which takes anything between 1.5-2 hours. For example: a company called Carpolonia offers connections between the Central Coach Station in Krakow and Pyrzowice air port with the fare 30 PLN single one way, payable with the driver and tickets are available at the RDA Station. The Central Railway Station is situated in the city centre, approximately 10 minutes walk from the Market Square. Ticket offices are open between 5am and 11pm. You can check all train timetable on the PKP (Polish National Railway) website: http://www.pkp.pl. There is a left luggage office at the station and a number of lockers. Train tickets are discounted for students up to 26 years old who carry a valid student ID issued by a Polish university or to students who hold an ISIC pass.


Two main national roads cross in Krakow. These are national road no.7 (north-south) running from Gdansk to Chyzne, which is a part of the European road E77, and also a part of E40 which in Poland runs between Zgorzelec in the west and Korczowa in the east, partly via national road no. 4, motorway A4 and national road 77.



Krakow’s regional coach station is at ul. Bosacka 18, behind the Central Railway Station if you are approaching it from the Old Town. The PKS (Polish National Coachlines) and coaches and buses operated by private carriers leave from the two levels of the station.  Check the station’s website: http://www.rda.krakow.pl/en/.  Tickets are discounted for university students and foreign EURO 26 card holders. Ask your driver in case of using other than PKS carrier.
